Eagles Secure Third-Place Finish at Tough Notre Dame Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team followed up a great meet two weeks ago with an even better one today, Sept. 30, bringing home a third-place team finish at the Notre Dame Invitational after totaling 159 points.

The Eagles bested a number of ranked teams in the talented field, including defending NCAA Champions No. 2 New Mexico, who placed fourth with 166 points. The Green and White were also able to take down No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 24 Vanderbilt, who EMU beat in their previous meet. Finally, Eastern also upset No. 28 Utah, who took sixth.

"This was a really strong performance for us," exclaimed Head Coach Sue Parks. "We got out decent through the first mile, and we continued to move up throughout the race. The girls finished very strong the last 1000 meters. It was exciting to be in the mix with some ranked teams, and this is a really big step forward for us as we head into even bigger meets in October."
