SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  The Providence College men’s and women’s Cross Country teams competed at the Joe Piane Invitational on Sept. 30 in South Bend Ind. The Friars finished first in the women's race and fourth in the men's race.

In the women’s race, Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) lead the Friars by finishing in ninth place with a time of 16:37.8. The pack of Amelia Paladino (Morgantown, W.Va.), Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia),Abbey Wheeler (Pine City, N.Y.) and Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) ran close together throughout the race. Paldino finished 24th with a time of 16:48.8 followed by Ilarda in 26th (16:49.0), Wheeler in 28th (16:51.6) and Lembo in 30th (16:54.0). Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) continually moved up throughout the race, finishing 70th place (17:23.0) for her season debut. Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) finished 80th (17:29.2) and Keelin Hollowood finished 107th (17:48.4) to round out the scoring for Providence. The Friars scored 117 points to win the meet, defeating No. 2 New Mexico and No. 5 NC State. There was only a 16 seconds spread between Collins from Lembo. “I’m very happy we were able to win the meet after a terrible start,” Coach Ray Treacy said.  “They (the women) stayed composed and got the job done.”
